members of the Parent Advisory Committee.
|
Parents
at each of the South of Market Centers elect a
Parent Advisory Committee (P.A.C.), which serves
as the leadership group for the families. Representatives
are also elected from the P.A.C. to the Board
of Directors.
Each P.A.C. meets monthly
at a 5:30 p.m. with child care and dinner provided.
The P.A.C. determines the events and activities
that will take place in the upcoming months as
well as throughout the coming years. Based on
requests by parents, programs and services are
developed from which the P.A.C.s work with Center
staff and the Family Support Coordinator, Patrice
Johnson, to plan and implement. Some of the
activities that have taken place at the Centers
during the 1999-2000 year are:
Clementina Child Development Center:
Multicultural Night
Orientation to Public Schools Night
Thanksgiving Dinner
Winter Holiday Party
Pilipino Parenting Classes and Support Groups
A Family Snow Trip
Yerba
Buena Gardens Child Development Center:
A Family Halloween Party
Two Workshops on Discipline (English/Spanish)
Holiday Gift/Card Making Workshop
Workshop on Bedtime Issues
A Family Snow Trip
The parents also participate in many other ways
such as assisting in the classroom, on field trips,
special projects such as helping to set up and
maintain the classroom computers, fund-raising,
and serving on Board committees.
